katsucon 17 schedule

It's that time of year again, time to head back down the Corridor into the convention fray. First up for me: the venerable Katsucon, for its 17th year, and second at the Gaylord Resort in National Harbor. I'm eager to see how the area has changed in the past 12 months, and how the con, which has been the subject of a great deal of rumor and controversy (stemming from a very ambiguous policy regarding fanart this year) proceeds. This will be my third consecutive Katsucon, and most likely my last, so I'm hoping for a good experience yet again.

Schedule:
Friday, 11:30 PM: Modern Mythology, in National Harbor 13: I gave this one last year, sans slideshow, and it caused a fire hazard when they packed too many people into the room. A bit late, but I don't mind.

Saturday, 11:30 AM: Castles, Forests and Bath Houses, in National Harbor 8. Exactly 12 hours after my first, I have my second. Anyone who hasn't been to my Miyazaki panel yet, now's the chance, because I won't be inVA again until November.

Saturday, 8:00 PM: Dead Like Us, in National Harbor 6. Possibly the last time I host this panel in this form, as yet another chunk of it is being edited out for "Kowaii" this summer.

Panels I will be attending:
Friday, 5:00 PM: History of Gainax, with Aaron Clark. I was at his History of Eva panel at AUSA, and I'm eager to see his take of Gainax. I might also be contributing my knowledge of Gurren Lagann.

Friday, 10:30 PM: Con Horror Stories, with Erik Stehmer (who is also one of my roommates this con). Always a blast, we did this together at AUSA.

Saturday, 10:00 AM: International Politics According to Hetalia. It says it hopes to bridge the gap between the anime and the actual study of world politics. Which grabs my attention.

Saturday, 1:30 PM: Mythology and Anime, with Michael Seay. He also does the Psychology of Anime panel, and his take is centered around Jung, archetypes and epic mythology, something I only touch upon in mine.

Sunday, 9:00 AM: Crime Fiction in Anime. Let's hope for some discussion around "Monster."

I will be leaving back to NY at 2:30 PM. I will also be doing random periods of "Con Walking" with my camcorder on Friday and especially Saturday night. As always, look for The Doctor.
